Charles Haines

Charles Haines' work

*October artist--Charles Haines

This is the story of me, Charles Haines, or at least part of it. I am Canadian and I'm an artist. This was all that I ever wanted to be for as long as I could remember. I went to McMaster University and studied art. It was one of the greatest experiences of my life. After University I left Canada and came to Taiwan where I spent 5 years. I lived in a small town called Lukang and fell in love with Taiwan's culture and people. I met an artist, Mr. Lin and we went out painting at the Matsu Temple. These are not only some of my favorite paintings but they are some my fondest memories. My first show was in Taiwan at Beat Studio, in Taipei. It was a two man show shared with Stig Hanson. It was a wonderful experience and one that I’ll never forget. When my friend Tim Nathan Joel contacted me about a project he was working on, using paintings for an ad campaign for Alley Cats Pizza, I jumped at the opportunity. I'm happy again to be able to share my work with people and a place that has given me so much joy. I hope that you have enjoyed all the works that have appeared and that you will continue to enjoy the ones that come after mine. Thank you Tim and Mark for all the work that you put into this project and for helping to fulfill the dreams of those around you.

TWO CATS ON YELLOW

TWO CATS ON YELLOW, Oil on Canvas
One night while out with a couple friends I was able to observe an alley cat, that one of my friends was trying to feed. I made a sketch while we talked. This sketch was the inspiration for the painting. I am also reminded of the two cats that were part of our family when I was growing up. Tanya and K.C. For a long time we had carpet running through out the house almost the same colour of yellow. I can remember K.C. basking in the summer sun as it streamed in through the window, happy and content. Which is also how I feel when I look at this painting. I hope you, dear reader, enjoy it too. Thank you.
