One of the trendiest, most fashionable cafes around town is espressamente illy, located inside the Taipei 101 skyscraper. This cafe's parent company owners have been in the coffee business for three generations now, with a total 75 years of experience. Just as important, they invented the world's first espresso machine, making them an important name in coffee history and in Italy, where the drink is especially popular. Espressamente illy--"illy espresso, made just for you" in English--says a lot about the Illy family and their devotion to coffee-making. Located on both the first and 35th floors of Taipei 101, this place screams Italy from top to bottom, from the wall-mounted, illuminated coffee sign to the cafe entrance bar setup, with its vibrant red colors and modern-looking stainless steel mirror-style design. --By Josie Wu, translated by Ann Lee

A. The Parmesan Cheese and Balsamic Vinegar (NT$120) is a popular choice at the cafe, where you can enjoy a number of good a la carte items on the menu. Some exquisite limited-edition coffee gift packs are also available for purchase at the cafe.

B. This place offers a genuine Italian cafe experience with a full range of hot and cold coffee drinks. In addition, there are other beverages and snacks, including coffee-based cocktails, bubbly drinks and wines, focaccia and ciabatta sandwiches.

C. Fritz Storm, the consultant for illy corporation, is also a premier judge at the 2008 World Barista Championship (or WBC) and notes that espresso is ultimate coffee, while all other blended coffees dilute pure natural flavors and frangrances.
