Heading to the Alishan National Scenic Area and fond of singing? In a bid to lure a new kind of passenger, the Taiwan Railway Adminstration, along with the Alishan Forest Railway, has introduced several gaily-painted karaoke lounge train carriages to the Alishan rail route. Each carriage can carry up to 20 people in comfort, and boasts decorative curtains, soft lighting, plus state-of-the-art sound equipment and microphones for some spirited singing while going to and coming back from Taiwan¡¦s most famous mountain resort. The cost of renting these special carriages is NT$10,000 per car, and while they are not used on every trip up the mountain, reservations can be made by telephone. If belting out your favorite songs in Chinese, English or Japanese is not your thing, you can simply sit back in the comfortable lounge chairs and take in some of the island¡¦s finest scenery.
