Kaohsiung is no slouch when it comes to providing establishments that follow key worldwide trends. There are pubs, restaurants, sports bars and cafes now that cater to snooker players, card players, gamers and, now, dart players. Arachnid is a fairly new sports bar that is fast becoming popular to the bull shooter player. The origin of the game has its roots in medieval England where soldiers used the bottoms of old wine barrels for target practice, using a variation of a tool (darts) that began with archery. If you think you have the combination of skill, talent and a bit of luck, recreational and serious players are welcome to join in the fun for a match where daily, monthly and annual competitions are held.
The daily competitions here involve getting a waiter to witness as you throw at an electronic dart board. There are three of these elaborate contraptions and each player can only compete one time per day for first, second and third prizes from a Technos brand watch, to cash and beer. Arachnid also sells all the equipment to make your outfit look professional and seems to promote Harrows Dart Technology (www.harrowsdarts.com), a famous name in darts.
Don't forget to have a look at the menu while you're here, as it is in both English and Chinese and has lots of dishes to choose from. There are "popular meals" like stir fries and appetizers from NT$150-220. There is also a list of upscale stir fries starting at NT$160. Steaks, roasted dishes with veggies and dumplings are other options to choose from while you enjoy a beverage and a game or two. The beverage list is massive (the whiskey!), with virtually nothing amiss. There is also a Wii station, flat TV screens, a VIP room that can seat 15 and a minimum charge of NT$200 + 10% for all customers.
