Congratulations to city planners for revamping Central Park. Bordered by JungShan, JungHua, WuFu and MinSheng roads, the park has taken on a fresh new look with neon-lit pathways skirting well-groomed gardens, ponds and streams. Its become more inviting now the perimeter walls have been removed. The Outdoor Cafe, centerpiece to the setting, serves take-out snacks (pastries, cookies and ice cream) and beverages (teas, coffees, smoothies and soft drinks) from NT$60 to NT$90; whole cakes are priced at NT$400. Indoor and outdoor seating is available, including an open-air deck on the roof. Folks come for the atmosphere--a daytime break beneath the banyans or evening entertainment under the stars. On Monday to Thursday, there's live music every evening. Central Park is also home to skateboard ramps, basketball and tennis courts, a lap pool, kiddy playground, and a jogging field open from sunup to sunset. -- By Karen Schmitt
