Costing NT$600 million to construct, the Dakeng Scenic Area's Taichung The Sun Hot Spring & Resort features a stylish, vigorous black Guanyin - one of the gods Taiwanese worship - surrounded by luxuriant forest. Touting itself as a Japanese-style beauty spring--with low-alkali, mildly-warm sodium bicarbonate springs--this place has beautiful scenery straight out of the movies with dense mist and a fog-filled forest landscape. There are 26 luxurious, strikingly-fashionable guest rooms that include touches like classically-elegant woven silk canopies. Room rates start at NT$6,000 and include satisfying breakfasts and dinners. A two-hour hot springs package for two people per room starts at NT$1,380 for weekdays. Assistant Manager Zheng Shi-Yuan also says that there is a free premium facial mask for room guests. A hot springs soak for a group or couple is NT$500 for per person. There are also Chinese and Western restaurants, managed by Chef Ju Jr-jung . High-end meals are served from 7 a.m. with breakfast (NT$200), lunch and dinner (NT$550), and an0 afternoon tea (NT$220) that provides delicacies for guests after they enjoy the hot springs. Discounts are offered on weekdays; call for details. --By Niang Chen, translated by Mei Lee
