Dandy Hotel, opened on June 24, is a classy addition to the boutique hotel scene. The decor is light and airy, mostly done in whites and light wood tones. The toilets feature built-in bidets, and the bathtubs are classic stand-alone tubs, not built into the wall. The halls feature quirky and fun touches that brighten the way to your room and jump out nicely against the cool white-on-blond-wood tones. Be sure to reserve your room early, as this hotel only has 300 rooms. Room rates are reasonable NT$3,200 to NT$4,500 a night. For a limited opening period there is a 40% discount on rooms. --By Courtney Donovan Smith, translated by Ann Lee

A. Dandy's higher-end rooms feature design themes that provide a unique experience and adds colour and life, unlike most cookie-cutter hotel rooms. Each room is unique and done by a different designer. Plaques introduce the designer and the theme.

B. Dandy took over the premises of the old Prince Hotel, a historical residence built in the 1960s that often hosted VIPs, including presidents and other top officials. Although the entire building has been entirely re-done, bits of the history remain--such as the balconies overlooking TianJin Street.
