:: Hot Springs in Taitung & Nearby Areas

Hot springs in Taiwan are divided in three categories, the type of rocks (sedimentary, igneous, etc.) that make up the springs. In Taitung County, one can find all three types, from outdoor creek locales to five-star hotels--even Green Island has superior-quality hot springs. Below are several hot springs, separated by area with a little bit about each one:

Along the Southern Cross-Island Highway motorists will find Haiduan Township. Here, visitors can enjoy a number of outdoor, simple hot springs. One of the main springs is in Xinwulyu Creek. Composed of beautiful rock pools and a nearby waterfall, Lisong Hot Springs is another nice place to soak. Bishan Hot Spring has a one-of-a-kind landscape full of stalagmites that you reach only by trekking through a river! To get here, you need a mountaineering permit, which you can apply for at the Xiamo and Caixia Wild Creek Hot Springs. Wulu Hot Springs, on the other hand, is located near the Tianlong suspension bridge and is very accessible, with all kinds of nearby accommodation options.

Hongye Village in Yanping Township, a place with a lot of baseball history, also has some pleasant hot springs. A journey to the Hongye Hot Springs Water Park is a worthwhile experience here. Back in the Japanese colonial period, Hongye was already a hot springs area. However, a host of natural disasters, such as floods, earthquakes and typhoons, destroyed the area. In recent years, the Taitung County Government oversaw a restoration project to renovate and re-create the Hongye Hot Springs & Scenic Area. The once-damaged place now boasts a host of modern facilities and breathtaking natural surroundings.

Jhihben Hot Spring is the most famous hot springs in Taitung. Along with Beitou, Jiaoxi and Guanzailing, this area is among the four most reputable springs in Taiwan. Here, you can find five-star hot springs hotels with comprehensive spa facilities, as well as many other, smaller resorts. These are the most popular travel destinations in Taitung.

Since Jinlun Hot Springs is located near the port of Jinlun River in Jinfong Township, the springs have a great view of the river and the ocean. Also in the area are Jinfong, Bilu, Dufeilu and Jinhuang hot springs, which are simple, outdoor pools near the river.

Along the South Link Rail Line is Pushayuyang Hot Springs, an outdoor creek springs located in Dawu Township. On the most southern tip is Daren Township, where Tuban Hot Springs is located. These are both great spots to check out.

Jhaorih Ocean Bed Hot Springs in Green Island, off the coast of Taitung, is one of the three biggest deep-ocean hot springs in the world. The spring water itself is composed of acidic sulfur, with a water temperature of 80 degrees Celsius. Since the outdoor pool faces east, it is also called the Sunrise Hot Springs.
