Located in a renovated building opposite Taichung Park, this 134-room residence belongs to the Orange Hotel chain, which has budget hotels around the island and is part of Forte Hotels & Resorts. Offering high-quality lodging for low prices, Orange is favored by business travelers, families and both independent and group travelers/tourists. Amenities include free Internet hook-ups in all guest rooms, and free wireless Internet in the restaurant and lobby. In January, the hotel will also open a third-floor conference/meeting floor with facilities suitable for gatherings of anywhere from six to 80 people. --By Douglas Habecker, translated by Naomi Lai

A. The Deluxe Twin Room (NT$3,400) features two queen-sized beds, making it ideal for families. Room prices, discounted 30% on normal days and 20% on Saturdays, range from NT$3,000 for the Standard Room to the NT$4,200 for the Orange Suite. These relatively compact rooms are comfortable and attractively decorated in warm peach, brown and orange colors.

B. Many of the hotel's rooms offer excellent views of Taichung Park and the city thanks to its location, which also puts it within easy reach of the popular YiZhong Street night market, Chung Yo Department Store shopping district and rail station transportation hub, with its easy connections to nearby attractions like Sun Moon Lake. This makes the hotel an ideal base for day trips around central Taiwan.

Forte Orange Hotel C. Room guests get complimentary buffet breakfasts at the spacious first-floor Gamma Cafe. This restaurant is also open (11:30 a.m.-2 p.m., 5:30-9 p.m.) to outside diners and offers a daily NT$168 special main entree that includes the salad/drink buffet. Other mostly-Western main courses, including pastas and German pork knuckle, can also be enjoyed with the buffet for NT$220 to NT$360.
