Mod is the kind
of place where it's easy to pretend one is sitting in a swanky little
hang-out somewhere in, perhaps, Miami or San Juan. Thanks
to the efforts of manager Wilson Chu--a Hong Kong native--and May
Wang, this neat place exudes a Latin sort of feeling, with plenty
of tropical plants, candle-lit tables, bright colors, Latino music,
Cuban cigars and other nice touches. From 5 to 10 pm, guests
may order main-course items, which change every three weeks.
These include dishes like Pan-Fried Chicken Breast with Cajun butter
sauce (NT$320) or Grilled Lamb Fillet with honey mustard sauce (NT$380),
with prices including soup, salad, vegetable and rice, spaghetti
or potato. There are also snacks, available after 10 pm, like
goose liver pate with red wine dressing (NT$280), potato skins with
cheese and bacon, nachos with cheese dip and deep-fried brie or
camembert with walnut dressing. There are cocktails and non-alcoholic
'mocktails' (NT$200-NT$300) and NT$150 beers; drinks are 50 percent
off with when ordered with meals. Wine and cigars may be enjoyed
in the cool-looking lounge upstairs, complete with stuffed leather
chairs and low lighting. Mod Cafe is one street over and about
a block up from the famous Chingming 1st Street, or 'cafe street'.
