VISITOR RATINGS & REVIEWS
This neat-looking establishment, named after the old Taiwanese
expression for a 'cool dude', is one of the latest places to capitalize
on a wave of nolstalgia sweeping the island. Decorated with dark
wood, old black-and-white photos of Taichung, rough wooden tables
and Taiwanese antiques, this is a classy, yet relaxing, place to
hang out. Naturally, the delicious food leans towards old-style
Taiwanese and Hakka dishes and includes items like vegetable and
turnip omelets, bitter melon, black chicken stew, fried papaya,
wild mountain vegetables, hand-made noodles, venison fried with
vegetables, and--for something unique and good--fried honey bees
with peanuts and fried ants. Prices range from about NT$100 to NT$280
and lunch hours are 11:30 am to 2 pm and 5 pm to midnight. Black
Dog is located on Talung Road and is almost directly opposite the
one end of the famous Chingming 1st Street, or 'tea street'. The
restaurant will validate parking tickets from the Tunghsing Parking
Lot nearby.
