This teahouse and restaurant is one of the most extraordinary
new establishments Taichung has seen in a while. The large building
is really a museum of sorts and contains an entire, authentic-looking
recreation of a Taiwan street from about 60 to 80 years ago, complete
with Ching Dynasty and colonial-era store fronts and hundreds of
real antiques and items collected by one of the owners. This includes
old mail boxes, signs and posters, a 40-year-old taxi, bicycles,
photos and fully-stocked camera store, dentist office, candy and
toy store, barbershop and movie theater. Up to about 250 customers
can sit at tables along the street, or inside shops, and enjoy multiple-course
set Chinese and Taiwanese meals (NT$280-680), or other meals, like
Beef and Oyster Sauce Rice, 'Tong Po' Pork, and chicken leg or pork
chop rice, for about NT$180, plus snacks and other dishes. The usual
variety of iced and hot tea drinks and coffees are also served.
VIP rooms for four to 10 people are available. Taiwan Banana is
located very close to the Confucius Temple, on the opposite side
of the road.
