Escaping from it all at Greenfield Manor

Known as Taichung's version of Taipei's Yangmingshan, the Dakeng Scenic Area has developed into a great place to dine, sip tea and enjoy the tranquil natural surroundings. Greenfield Manor (or "Shan Ho Lian") is a pioneer in this region. Instead of lavish decorations, the architect owner built, brick by brick, this old house-style café with a simple patio deck to take in the ultimate Taichung city night views, accompanied by grassy breezes.

The dishes here are rustic. The Free-Range Chicken Pot (NT$220) uses select, firm chicken meat stewed with a special Chinese herb concoction for a nourishing and tasty flavor. Grilled Trout (NT$220) uses red trout from Guguan for an irresistible smell. Grilled Ringdove (NT$220) is also popular.

Drink-wise, the featured Shan Ho Lien Coffee (NT$150) is a combination of coffee and rich cream. Also available is Taiwan Coffee (NT$150) from Gukeng Mountain and Huisun Farm. Highly recommended is the Healthy Vinegar Drink (NT$150), made from apple vinegar and floral teas. Other teas range from NT$150 to NT$160.

There are also meal courses suitable for couples and small families. Steamed Fish Pot (NT$220) uses the fresh fish available for the season. The Assorted Mushroom Ppot (NT$220) is a superb vegetarian dish of mushrooms. The Winter Warming Summer Grass Vegetarian Pot (NT$200) is a healthy and nourishing dish.

This place provides great relaxation for the whole family. After the meal and tea, take a stroll around. The place offers guided paintball games for added excitement and children can play on the grass slide and hillside playground. For an outdoor living experience, there are guest cabins and campground, plus a conference room and barbeque pits. Advance reservation required for use of facilities.
