Located
next to the Philix amusement arcade behind Shinkong Mitsukoshi
Department Store, New Deli is a very spacious, happy-looking
place. A ceiling-to-floor glass facade looks in on a bright,
warm interior with modern-style furnishings and decor (look
for the huge projection-screen clock on the left wall)
and lots of orange and green colors. Bossa nova, jazz and
classical music helps complete the feeling. Seating for
120 can be found on the first and second floors, with a
mezzanine balcony area in between. When it gets warmer,
the rooftop, outdoor seating area should be a big hit,
with plenty of space, a good view of the surrounding area
and a children's play area. The Western/Chinese cuisine
is good, filling and diverse, with attractively presented
main courses (NT$250-280) like Stewed Chicken with Lavender,
Steamed Swordfish Roll with Curry Sauce, Clam with Lily
Pasta, which come with soup and drink. There are also two-person
NT$420 hot pot meals, vegetarian selections, kids meals,
Stewed Beef Noodles (the owner's personal specialty), NT$180
teatime specials (2-5 p.m.), and NT$400-range set meals
with main course, bread, salad, soup, dessert and drink.
There is Lavazza coffee (NT$90-160), all kinds of teas,
frappes and juices. Haagen Dazs ice cream and cakes (order
in advance) are also sold, and a NT$120 Western breakfast
(from 7:30 a.m.) will probably be added soon. Conveniently,
New Deli has its own parking lot next door. – By
