Proper ethnic decor is usually de rigueur in ethnic restaurants:
Greek restaurants attempt to evoke Greece, Japanese restaurants
call up Japan, and so forth. Kebabish is unusual in that
respect. Its interior is virtually decoration-free and,
if not for the Indian poster prints on the wall, you
wouldn't know what was about to come out of the kitchen.
However, that's not a problem, as Kebabish has one extremely
potent reminder that this is an Indian restaurant—the
food. Once you've had a taste, you'll realize that an Indian
atmosphere isn't needed to make you feel like you're in India.
Just close your eyes, eat and enjoy.
Our food came and went in a blur, disappearing at a startling
rate. Yes, it was that good. We ordered the Lamb Tikka (NT$180)
and Shrimp Madras, some Naan bread, Cucumber Raita (NT$40),
and truly one of the best pickle chutneys I've had in years.
Apparently, it's specially ordered from India. The menu is
fairly extensive and includes all the standard choices-from
vegetarian Sag Paneer (NT$140) to a Mixed Grill (NT$280)
and Biryani dishes (NT$200-280). Drinks include lassi (an
Indian yogurt drink for NT$60/80), banana milkshakes, sodas
(NT$50), beer (Heineken, Corona, Taiwan for NT$80), and tea
(NT$50/70/90).
The staff is friendly, and calmly oversaw a Saturday dinner
rush. The restaurant's smallness has its charms, too. A bit
like being in a cafeteria, but no one seemed to mind—in
a place this size, the only choice is to continue your own
conversation and let others go on with theirs. Besides, you'll
be too busy eating to notice anyone else, including your
own dining companions.
With an amazing selection of Indian cuisine, quick, friendly
service and reasonable prices, Kebabish is certainly a place
to add to your regular restaurant rounds. You won't be disappointed.
