The long-standing Garden at Giverny has re-opened with a completely new look, new menu and new chef. Inside and outside, the original building now looks even better with warmer colors, bigger windows, green wicker chairs and lots of nice European-style decorative touches. Outdoor seating on a large upstairs balcony and out front is extremely nice, too. Just inside the door, the new bakery area sells a variety of fresh-made breads and pastries. Notably, these are half priced every evening from 9 to 10 p.m. (no credit cards accepted for this). New Head Chef Philippe Rouchet, a Paris native, has 20 years of kitchen experience ranging from the French military to fine restaurants. The all-new menu starts with a daily 7:30 to 11 a.m. (to 3 p.m. holidays) Brunch with scrambled eggs, panini sandwiches and other items (NT$150-190). Light dishes (NT$120-210) include Nicoise Salad, Croque Monsieur, and three types of crepes. The menu focuses on a la carte meals and main entrees include Crispy Pan Fried Salmon with Leeks (NT$360) and Fillet of Beef with Candied Shallots (NT$450). There are pastas (NT$160-220) and tasty desserts, from Creme Brulee and a Crumble to various dessert crepes. For beverages (NT$80-150), there are healthy fruit and vegetable drinks, fruit teas and smoothies, French fruit teas, blended herb milk teas, a variety of Italian-style coffees, and beer. Also, if you stroll in with your dog, the restaurant thoughtfully offers dog snacks and a water bowl for your canine companion.
