Despite its excellent location by the corner of ZhongMing South and TaiZhongGang roads (opposite the gas station), this cozy little eatery can be easy to miss because it's so narrow. Wedged between two store fronts, Elephant still manages to provide a pleasant ambiance, with inside and outside seating plus a tiny bar. The friendly owners, Mr. and Mrs. Jiang, are veterans in the dining/nightlife business, having spent years previously working with Napoli and The Londoner. Most of the Western and Thai-style dishes they now offer are from those earlier days, but are significantly cheaper. With the exception of the NT$100 Fish and Chips, all entrees cost NT$70 to NT$90. These include Risotto Cream Chicken, Thai Chicken Curry with Rice, Spicy Seafood Pasta with White Wine Sauce, and Grilled Chicken Salad. There are also lamb, chicken and veggie kebabs, served in a pita pocket, soups, and snacks like Chips (french fries), served plain or with gravy, curry sauce or cheese and gravy. The drinks are equally cheap, with NT$60 to NT$70 bottled imported beers and NT$30 sodas. --By Douglas Habecker, translated by Ann Lee
