Qi Ping offers seven types of delicacies in perfectly-sized portions, including five types of fish, chicken thigh meat, pork set meals (NT$180-320), teppanyaki noodles, and a variety of hot pots (NT$200-250). This popular cafeteria defies cliches, with cuisine that is both affordable and flavorful. --By Niang Chen, translated by Erica Lin

A. Plum Pork Chop Rice (NT$180) uses select pig shoulder bones (only two per pig), thick with meat and tendons, slow cooked with soy sauce and some sugar, with red yeast for flavor. Set meals come with rice, handmade appetizers, soup, fruit and black tea.

B. Hot Pot Teppanyaki Noodles (NT$200 pork, NT$220 beef) pairs generous meat chunks and a small hot pot. The marinated pork is juicy and tender, while flavorful beef tendon chunks have a 50/50 beef-tendon ratio. Choose the black pepper, mushroom or combination sauce to go with this entree.
