LAG PUB

--By Niang Chen Translated by Sho Huang

When you walk into 364 Warehouse Pub, you'll see several sacks piled up in front of the entrance as decorations. The theme color of this place is black and "Blacky" is the nickname of the owner. Although it's not a big establishment--accommodating only 10 to 20 customers-it's certainly full of energy and gets livelier as the night goes on.

Other things also make 364 Warehouse Pub rather unique. Name cards of the place don't seem to exist. What's more, customers can stay as late as they want.

All this adds to the pub's appeal. Customers' expressions are usually a good indicator that everyone's blending in and having a good time. There are three to five kinds of beer, each costing between NT$150 and NT$180. There's also a buy-three-get-one-free deal on Asahi, and a buy-two-get-one-free deal on imported liquors.

Regular customers seem to have all the prices on the top of their heads, although the pub doesn't have a menu. When the pub is full, Blacky sets up free barbecue outside the pub as a treat for his customers. There's also a KTV, featuring a nice stereo system, and the attractive bartender is always ready to sing love songs with the customers while fixing a Screw Driver (NT$200) or other drink. Posters with slogans like "Fight Communism, Fight Russia" as well as old Taiwanese movie posters are displayed on the walls, entertaining with ideology and nostalgia, much like the exposed wires and cables across the ceiling.

The pub's rather mundane name is attributed to the fact that the place opened before Blacky was able to consult with a fortune teller about an auspicious name. In addition, because the pub is small, its stock is piled up out front, making it look like a warehouse from the outside. Together with an address number of 364 and you have a place that is destined to be called the 364 Warehouse Pub.

Alcoholic drinks are strictly prohibited for those under 18.
