Be prepared for some real thrills and chills when you enter Taichung's
first genuine haunted house which, unfortunately, will only be in
town for about three months, until around lunar new year time. A
joint project between a local company and Hollywood-based Mirage
Entertainment, which specializes in such ghoulish productions, Nana's
has already had very successful tours of Taipei and Kaohsiung. Taking
25 days to set up, the haunted house provides some fun local variations
on standard themes (keep an eye open for the rotting motorscooter
riders). Visitors (victims?) spend about 15 to 20 minutes--depending
on whether they're the types that freeze up or start running when
scared--wandering through a very dark maze, where plenty of gruesome
secrets and surprises await. For non-Chinese-speakers, the little
talk given at the beginning basically reminds visitors to not light
any fires inside and not touch the characters that jump out at them.
In turn, be reassured you will not be touched. Nana's is worth the
NT$180 admission ticket but is definitely not for elementary-age
and younger kids. It's located on Tzuyou Road, almost next to the
Taichung Park McDonald's and opposite the Taiwan Power Company.
Check it out at your own risk. (heh! heh!)
