VISITOR RATINGS & REVIEWS
Taichung's art museum has been a much-missed presence since its
closure just before the 9-21 earthquake in 1999, with subsequent
budgetary difficulties delaying any sort of resurrection.
Fortunately, things are beginning to change with the recent reopening
of three galleries, to be followed by more in the months ahead and,
hopefully, a full opening late this year. This means that
visitors can once again enjoy the museum's excellent exhibitions,
featuring a variety of local and foreign paintings, sculpture, installation
art and so on. Right now, this includes Chinese new year prints
(to March 25), and sketches by Taiwan modern art pioneer Li Chung-shan
(to March 30). Added benefits include free admission and,
as always, the museum's outstanding surrounding park grounds which
are open to everyone. Access to the museum is not through
the main entrance, but the side Yingtsai entrance (on the right
side of the building if one is facing its front). There are
also free weekly cultural lectures (in Chinese) on Saturday mornings
and afternoons in the museum auditorium.
