After well over a year of hard work by volunteers, Taichung now has its first-ever international guide to city living. "Unlocking Taichung" is an attractive, all-color, 400-page English guide book which provides details on almost anything foreigners need to know about moving to and living in Taichung. The wide range of subjects, organized in 13 chapters, includes visas, custom regulations, relocating pets, culture shock, helping children adjust, Chinese culture and language, real estate and housing options, security/safety, garbage collection, hiring local household employees, educational options, health, medical insurance, emergencies, public transportation, and hundreds listings for businesses, organizations and attractions. There is also an excellent, comprehensive English map of the city. The book is published by The Key international community service center and is the result of nonstop work by members of the community, mostly from the International Women's Association of Taichung. Books are NT$600 each and those wanting a copy should contact the number above. Order now, because the initial print run is only 1,000 copies. Depending on demand, "Unlocking Taichung" will be updated in future print runs.
