2013 Taichung City Traditional
Art Festival
Fill your Taichung Chinese New Year
holiday with art and culture

To celebrate the Chinese New Year, Taichung City Government has organized the 2013 Taichung City Traditional Art Festival, which will take place at four of Taichung’s art and cultural centers including the Dadun Cultural Center, Holotun Cultural Center, Seaport Art Center and Tun District Art Center. There will also be a special performance at Taichung Folklore Park. This year, in addition to traditional Taiwanese performance arts, performance groups from overseas will also be present to compete and collaborate with their local counterparts. All are welcome to join these events (Feb. 12-15), consisting of performances, an art bazaar, folklore classes, parent-and-child events, and do-it-yourself activities.

On Feb. 12, dragon and lion dances will be put on by a professional dance group, while local and Costa Rican performance groups will be perform flamenco dancing and a magic show. A group of students will also provide Beiguan traditional Chinese music. |

Ri Group, a sub-group of Ming Hua Yuan Taiwanese Opera, will give a performance on Feb. 13. Other featured groups include a Mexican band, flute ensemble, a dance group and a Taiwanese puppet-play group. There will also be a performing competition between drum bands from Taiwan and Gambia. |

To celebrate Valentine's Day, One Band will perform for couples on Feb. 14. Tourists also won't want to miss shows by a Japanese traditional dance group, the A-zhong Taiwanese Hand Puppet Show, Limayuangu Band, Yuanyuan Dance Group, and Yiji Dance Group.

On Feb. 15, the famous ChaiFound Music Workshop will perform with the Taichung-based Shengwuzhou Taiwanese Hand Puppet Show Group. A local aboriginal group, Limayuangu Band, will have a performing competition with another aboriginal performance group from the Andes. Other performances will be given by Umikaji from Okinawa, Sunglasses Band, and Little Frog Theatre Company.

At 2 p.m. every afternoon, there will be performances by the Wenshaoxuansizhu Band, The Sun Band, Shengwuzhou Taiwanese Hand Puppet Show Group, and a dragon and lion dance group.
