The owner of Chi Lou Gung Yu, Ah P, describes this mini coffee shop as an ¡§idea workshop¡¨. This unique place is located in the Yang Guang Lu Jun community off of Da Sheng Street, across from the Taichung Wan Shou Baseball Stadium. To enter, you will have to leave some identification with the guard on the first floor. Most of its customers hear about this place by word of mouth.

Chi Lou Gung Yu prepares its coffee from Java beans imported from the United States. Ah P is very good at adjusting the strength and flavor of the coffee to meet individual tastes. Probably the best way to achieve a caffeine high in a short amount of time is to try the very concentrated double espresso (NT$90). A less potent choice is the latte (NT$110). A very unique feature of this place is that Ah P doesn¡¦t collect money from customers directly, but instead shows them a donation box positioned strategically next to the door. Customers may leave as much as they think their time at this coffee shop was worth. Though this establishment is out-of-the-way, there are always customers, perhaps because people enjoy Ah P¡¦s kindness and the feeling of privacy that is hard to find in other coffee shops.
