Famous Canadian clothing brand Roots also operates its own Roots Cafes in Taiwan. Here in Taichung, Roots has rolled out a brand-new menu this spring with Executive Chef Derek pairing ingredients from Canada, such as salmon, maple syrup and Canadian bacon, with local ingredients to create unique dishes with Canadian flair.
 Left: Crumble Apple Pie (NT$140)
comes in a sizable portion with a
yummy crust.
Medium: Poutine (NT$170)
Left: Spinach and Bacon Quiche (NT$180) has mushroom
ham and shredded potato flavors, and is paired with a
small vinaigrette salad.
Popular Canadian snack Poutine is fries combined with mozzarella cheese and the rich flavors of the cafe's special beef sauce. For main entrees, there are three pasta dishes and a couple of appetizers. Especially recommended is the filling Spaghetti with Thickly-Sliced Smoked Salmon, Capers, and Tomatoes, featuring a generous pasta portion topped with a tomato cream sauce.
 Left: Spaghetti with Thickly-Sliced
Smoked Salmon, Capers,
and Tomatoes (NT$330)
Medium: Maple-glazed Canadian Bacon Cheese
Omelet Sandwich (NT$290) combines a
maple-glazed bacon and a soft omelet.
Right: Nanaimo Bar (NT$170)
For dessert, you can savor a traditional Canadian treat, the Nanaimo Bar, made with layers of coconut biscuit, maple sugar and caramel-flavored custard with chocolate and berries on the side--a combination guaranteed to satisfy your sweet tooth. Also, if you're in the mood for afternoon tea, a must-try is a quiche that comes with four blended cheeses, or try a Belgian Waffle or sweet pie.
With such culinary adventures in store, Roots Cafe is certainly a worthy destination on your next itinerary. |
