DaPRO Indoor Climbing

Taiwan’s largest climbing gym has opened its doors in Taichung. Designed by owner and avid climber Jimmy Juan, DaPRO Indoor Climbing has 661 square meters of floor space, with walls towering 16 meters high. It also boasts the only publicly accessible standard speed climbing wall in Taiwan, making it a training ground for Olympic hopefuls (climbing will make its debut at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo). However, beginners and novices don’t need to be intimidated, as DaPRO has a range of bouldering and top-roping services for climbers of all skill levels. After registration (NT$300), price options include day passes (NT$450), 6-month passes (NT$11,900), and 12-month passes (NT$20,700). Climbing and belaying lessons are also offered and gear is available for rent or purchase. Those who prefer to keep their feet on the ground can sip on a coffee or beer at the gym’s cafe while enjoying an unobstructed view of the action. –By Juliette Rihl Translated by Anna Yang
