Jack Brothers Steakhouse Taichung

Taichung diners love nothing more than great value for their money. Since arriving in Taichung from Hsinchu last August, this steakhouse has been offering exactly that, serving high-quality American beef and other fresh-made fare in a classy ambiance for very reasonable prices.
The restaurant’s upscale premises, including table and booth seating, a private VIP room, outdoor balcony seating for smokers and even a small kids’ play area, creates a pleasant setting for relaxed dinners and formal business lunches alike. The mid-priced menu matches the setting with a full range of appetizers, soups, salads, steaks, non-steak entrees, burgers and desserts, plus a kids’ menu.
As CEO Jack Hu notes, his restaurant’s food quality is not outdone by much pricier establishments, thanks to an exclusive use of chilled (not frozen) USDA Choice and Prime beef and the fact that everything–down to the mashed potatoes and whipped cream–is made from scratch.
Favorite steaks include the relatively-unique 8 oz. Flat Iron Steak (NT$480), tender, perfectly-pink, tendon-free cuts of chuck, plus the 12 oz. New York Strip, served for the unbeatable price of NT$1,080. For a special treat, try the Slow-Roasted Prime Rib (6 oz. NT$650, 11 oz. NT$990, 14 oz. NT$1,190), only available for dinner Fridays to Sundays and on holidays and best reserved early. This rib eye is cooked 6-7 hours in a special oven at about 62 degrees C, ensuring tender, juicy, flavorful enjoyment. Prime rib is a local rarity and almost unheard of at these prices, as some Taipei steakhouses can charge three times more.
Introduced in March are steak-seafood combos like Surf & Turf Filet Mignon with Grilled Lobster Tail (NT$1,250) and non-beef eaters can enjoy seafood, chicken and pork entrees (like BBQ Baby Back Ribs) and pastas or risotto dishes (NT$280-390). Jumping out among five burger/sandwich choices is the Peanut Butter Bacon Cheese Burger (NT$320) and a sinfully-rich ending to a meal is the Chocolate Hot Fudge Brownie Sundae (NT$250), a delightful pyramid of brownie, strawberry, ice cream, chocolate syrup and homemade whipped cream. –translated by Anna Yang
