This month, I asked several DJ friends, "What is the strangest thing that has ever happened to you while DJ-ing?"

By Marcus Maurice (DJ Marcus Aurelius) Translated by Ann Lee

Milk Tea Milk Tea:
I was in a club and this drunken gangster came up and demanded that I play MC Hot Dog's "Wo Ai Tai Mei" (I Love Taiwan Girls). I brushed him off as I usually do and told him that I just played it 15 minutes before. Usually, this gets people to leave me alone while I'm in the mix, but he started yelling and screaming at me to play the song NOW! I had a friend grab a security guard and, after five minutes of this guy getting in the security guard's face, the owner came over to me and said, "Play the song the guy wants, so he shuts up." I'm pleased to say that I never had another show at that place again.

Kris Fresh Kris Fresh:
Someone tried to discuss government policies and politics with me while playing a rock set. Agreed, it takes less effort to put together than a bangin' hip-hop set but, still, you're ruining my groove, man! What did the five fingers say to the face? Slap!

juni juni:
One party I was playing (downtown Houston, Texas), my brothers showed up O-BLITERATED. It was the first time they came to one of my shows, so I was stoked. But somehow one of them found some secret doorway that led to a room with a safe. Well, he proceeded to snag the cash and then (of course) lit the place on fire. When I got off the decks, he walked up to me, laughing his ass off, wads of cash in his britches, telling me he lit the building next door on fire. I didn't believe him until I heard sirens and saw the trucks outside. Needless to say, he gave me 50 bucks (out of 700). I so wish I was making this up.

We were rockin' it out as usual and, while in the mix, a cockroach crawled out of the pitch of the Technics 1200 turntable! We were so surprised that we jumped back and were so totally grossed out. Junior blew the cockroach off the turntable while I still was trying to keep the tracks beat-matched! We totally had the creepy-crawlies for the rest of our set, thinking it would come back!
