An Interview With DJ Vertigo
By Ken Lin
Translated by Yvonne Chen
|
On the day of the interview, DJ Vertigo had just returned
from playing at Japan's largest nightclub, Liquid Room
in Shinjuku, Tokyo. The pictures he brought back show
Japanese clubgoers dancing and screaming exuberantly.
DJ Vertigo has played in well-known clubs in Beijing,
Canton, Zhuhai, and other major Chinese cities, and
for a while, regularly at Shanghai's Club Vogue. Currently
he plays at Taipei's famous 2f, with frequent appearances
at other clubs. Collaboration and interaction with renowned
foreign DJs have influenced the music he plays, which
is very vanguard. Clubgoers of varying emotions can
attain a state of rapture under his guidance.
DJ Vertigo has worked with the famous Japanese
DJ, Q'hey, to bring in DJs from Japan to mix with
local DJs and clubgoers in the "Reboot Taipei"
party, held in both Taipei and Kaohsiung once
each season. The party is now a major event in
Taiwan's party culture.
According to DJ Vertigo, music is a journey. It
is incredible how the songs he plays are connected
in beat, rhythm, and even in lyrics. His music
expresses happiness. Under his lead, dancers'
emotions progressively "exit sadness for
joy" as if participating in a carefully designed
musical journey.

He has loved happy dance music since childhood, and
fell in love with electronic dance music in high school.
He got his start hanging out with club DJs, and requesting
eclectic songs. Practicing hard and continual exchanges
with other DJs have earned him a name in Taiwan with
frequent invitations to perform aboard. He's glad for
the chance to spread happiness with music; his efforts
are evident in the excitement on the dance floor.
