        An inexpensive cafeteria-style eatery, the eight-year-old Hundred House Fragrance Vegetarian Restaurant is a dream come true for those who like healthy, fresh, simple, and quick meals. It's also one of very few restaurants in Tainan that does not use MSG in their food. Owner Shen Jing says: "We also offer as many organic foods as we can." Shen's homemade desserts--medicinal-vegi rolls, gel-milk cubes, fresh gelitans, sweet potato balls, and her own peanut tofu--are regularly available. Shen stopped eating meat 23 years ago, hoping to improve her then-ailing health. Her husband became a vegetarian eight years ago when he realized how much his wife's health had improved since she gave up eating meat. Environmentally-concious diners will appreciate the fact that washable wooden chopsticks and glass and plastic dishes are available for use, as alternatives to disposable utensils.
