        When the Italian Cowboy Restaurant & Bar closed recently, many Tainan bargoers were saddened to see one of their favorite haunts disappear from the scene. Fortunately, Jed Calleton--an American who's been working in the Tainan Science-based Industrial Park since 1999--stepped into the breach. He bought the business, renamed it, and almost immediately reopened. Remodeling the interior to provide more space for guests, he's added a PlayStation to the pool table and darts board. The menu has American, Mexican and Italian favorites, and while there's no Happy Hour as such, nightly promotions make for inexpensive drinking. Within walking distance of several major hotels, and popular with resident expats and young Taiwanese, the Hang Out is just that--a welcoming place to hang out. --By Richard Matheson
