Attracting diners with a sizable sign and appetizing peppery aromas, this establishment is situated on an alley adjacent to In Sky Hotel in the Fengjia shopping area. The recommended Aromatic Spicy Fish in a Barrel (NT$680-880) includes tender, nutritious snakehead fish imported from China and a delicious broth made with green chilies and peppers, cucumbers, tomatoes, pork, chicken bones and other vegetables for a refreshing, slightly piquant flavor. The best way to enjoy this dish is to first eat the fish and vegetables before using the leftover soup to cook other hotpot ingredients like Freshwater Crayfish (NT$880). The slightly spicy specialty sauce is made with over 13 herbs and perfect for those who don’t like overly-spicy food. Although Pian Pian Fish (NT$250) is topped with many peppers, fish and cabbage aren’t that spicy and it pairs well with rice. Appetizers include crispy, sour and spicy Stir-Fried Potato Shreds (NT$59), Spicy Tang Bo Hu Grilled Fish (NT$880), and the fragrant, not-too-spicy Sichuan Pepper Tofu (NT$99).–By Jeffery Hsu Translated by Anna Yang Photograph by Niang Chen
