Over the past year there has been an explosion of Thai restaurants in Kaohsiung. A new addition to the ranks, Mayada features the culinary skills of a chef who worked for several years at a notable Taipei restaurant, and who insists on importing materials and ingredients from Thailand so as to ensure authenticity. Among the special dishes available here are: Sour Lemon Shrimp, which features raw shrimps with a special homemade source, and South Ginger Pork, which is somewhat similar to traditional Chinese sweet-and-sour pork, but spicier on account of the ginger used. The house drink is Cinnamon Milk Tea, made from a Sri Lankan fruit tea. The average check is around NT$200 per person. Adorned with ornaments, pottery pieces and wood carvings from Thailand, Malaysia and Africa, the interior has an exotic feel to it. --By Andra Hsu
