As one of Taiwan’s most popular beverages, “pearl milk tea” (jen ju nai cha) has been tried or heard of by most people. But, the taste can differ from one teahouse to another. If you ask people in Taichung where to find the best pearl milk tea, most will probably say Chun Shui Tang. This teahouse chain claims to be the creator of pearl milk tea (NT$55), which is now sold everywhere from teahouses to roadside stands. Each of the Chun Shui Tang outlets has a slightly different feel but they are all located in or near high-traffic areas of the city. Probably the most popular branch is the one on Chau Ma Road. Parking is convenient and there is outdoor seating for enjoying the warm summer nights. Of course, there is a large selection of teas and some frozen concoctions, good for beating the summer heat. To go along with your beverage, try one of Chun Shui Tang’s tea snacks, such as the spicy seaweed (NT$45), Cantonese-style turnip cake (NT$45) or a noodle dish (NT$50).
