Veteran Taichung expatriate chef Dereke Bruce has re-opened his Chung Yo Department Store branch as an Australian/New Zealand eatery, with a little Middle Eastern cuisine thrown in for good measure. Among the many choices are “The Fire House” roasted meat/seafood dishes, prepared in Taichung’s only clay, wood-burning oven. These include Wood Slab Salmon Lemon Thyme (NT$160) and Pork Baby Back Spareribs. There are also pizzas, soups and other dishes like hot and spicy Moa Wings (NT$140), Pacific Paella (NT$160), Maori Bread with Pomesco Sauce and Hummus dips (NT$180), and Fish and Chips. Unique and good are several Middle Eastern doner kebab choices, served on skewers, like the Baharat Spiced Chicken or Lamb Zucchini Peppers (NT$120).
