From our archives, Compass Magazine, May. 2002:
One of Taichung’s most popular Hakka eateries has moved to a new, improved location right next door to its old site near the intersection of Tung Shing and Gung Yi roads. The rustic-looking, wood-and-brick decor, with Taiwanese antiques, round wooden tables and chairs–many of them also antiques–and other attractive touches are all still there, both downstairs and upstairs. Miss Chiu, the owner, has also added an upstairs VIP room for private parties. The menu features the same great, traditional Hakka food, with specialties like Meinung sour soup, Hakka mixed stir-fry, ginger fried chicken, hand-made peanut tofu, fried pig’s stomach, Hakka-style eggplant, Hakka-style pig’s feet, and grilled chicken strips. There are some new dishes, including Hakka mixed vegetables, grilled chicken and Hakka-style stewed intestine. A variety of drinks, including cold plum juice, are also available.
