This establishment is found in the often-misty Sanyi wood-carving town, not far from Miaoli’s Wood Sculpture Museum. Its exposed-concrete building is infused with humanistic, cultural and artistic ambiance, standing in a bamboo forest like something out of the movie “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon”. As you walk along its greenery-lined path, natural elements, a gigantic copper sculpture, vast pond, and mossy stone steps combine to make this restaurant and museum an artsy venue for occasional art exhibitions. The owner has operated this combined restaurant and museum with such aesthetically-oriented living concepts for the past 7-8 years.
Besides free tours, this venue also offers exquisite set meals (from NT$2,000) in its restaurant. The menu-less set meals are prepared with seasonal ingredients and come with beautiful, artistic presentations. The skilled chef showcases each item to reflect the beautiful garden landscapes here.
Seasonal dishes include Cherry Duck with Sweet and Sour Cherry Blossom Sauce; and Lamb with French Mustard. Customers may also slowly enjoy the refreshing Mushroom Soup while feeling a closeness with the natural zen ambiance here, as the focus of this dish are the edible flowers planted around the venue.
Pu’er tea, served before a meal, is welcoming, warm and smooth, enjoyed in cups which, like all tableware here, are created by local artists. As you walk around, you will discover art and other surprises everywhere, perhaps leaving you with the the sense that everyone should spend more of their lifetimes in such beautiful, enriching surroundings. –By Niang Chen Translated by Anna Yang
