From our archives, Compass Magazine, Apr. 2002:
Lavazza is a well-known name for Italian coffee beans and coffee machines. However, Taichung consumers can now enjoy the city’s first Lavazza cafe, ideally located on Tiger City’s second floor, just above Starbucks. The decor has a nice upscale look to it and patrons can either sit inside or on the big balcony, which overlooks the mall’s outdoor plaza. There are plenty of hot and cold coffees and coffee concoctions (chocolateccino, latteccino, etc.), teas, juices, frappes and other beverages, averaging NT$120 to NT$150. However, one of the most unique offerings here is the European-style quiche, pies and cakes, displayed under glass at the front counter. The thick slices of quiche and flan–labeled in English and French–sell for NT$100 each, and dozen-plus NT$90 cakes and pies include maple sugar, strawberry cheese, pine nut and almond, and creme brulee. There are also several combo meals, ranging from NT$150 to NT$250, that include items like soup, salad, quiche, dessert and drink.
