Yueh Tang Wu Teahouse

From our archives, Compass Magazine, OCT. 2002

Nicely located on a fairly quiet lane behind Taichung City Hall, this new teahouse has a spacious, comfortable, modern feel to it, with about 80 seats upstairs and downstairs. A pleasant option for good weather is the row of outdoor balcony tables (with glass roof in case of rain). The long menu includes specially-made fruit frappes (NT$120), old-fashioned shaved ices (NT$80), and the popular fruit and other shaved ices (NT$100) with mango, strawberry, chocolate, peanut and other flavors. There are plenty of drinks, also available for take-out, including hot and cold teas and coffees, milk teas, and health teas. In addition to a variety of cheap Western and Chinese snacks, there are full meals, with dishes like Norwegian mackerel rice (NT$110), Thai-style lemon fish rice (NT$110), Malay Curry Chicken Leg Rice (NT$130), and various hot pot meal options.–By Douglas Habecker
