From the moment you walk in the door, it’s pretty obvious that 99 Bottles isn’t your average liquor store. A closer look at the attractive displays reveals a truly exceptional, international variety of whiskies, brandies, wines and other spirits that aren’t found anywhere else. Besides some very unique Scotch single malts, there are also high-end whiskies from America, Germany, Spain, New Zealand and even Peru, dated bottles of French brandy (as old as 1924) and wines from a dozen countries. All are solely imported and distributed by 99 Bottles under the direction of Importing Director Amanda Wammer who has traveled the world looking for great new finds since founding the business with her brother, General Manager Jackie Liu, six years ago.
According to Brand Ambassador/Marketing Manager Sunny Tseng, 99 Bottles’ good reputation means that brands also often seek it out for cooperation. As its thick, attractive catalog reveals, 99 Bottles currently represent about 49 brands, with whisky making up about 70% of its products. Both Liu and Wammer are Keepers of the Quaich, an honor given to those making special contributions to the Scotch whisky industry.
Tseng notes that other outstanding aspects of her company include its very broad selection covering a full spectrum of prices and customer preferences; its youthful, active staff members who all have at least Level 1 WSET (Wine & Spirit Education Trust) certification; and high levels of B2C and B2B customer service. Using its spacious upstairs function room, 99 Bottles also hosts an average of two public tasting events per month, creatively combining these with lifestyle classes on everything from perfume-making to decorative painting, in addition to many private corporate-sponsored events. You can also register via the company’s LINE group for 1-4 person reserve tasting sessions (NT$999 for 5 samples, NT$1,499 for 8).
The shop will also customize gift boxes and bottle labels—providing design assistance or using a customer provided one—for anywhere from one to thousands of bottles. This month, 99 Bottles will expand alongside its ever-growing product range with the opening of a new Kaohsiung branch.
