From our archives, Compass Magazine, Apr. 2002:
Given its name, it is appropriate that this fledgling community center is committed to “opening doors to Taichung”. The brainchild of Ingrid Ploeme (who has given part of her house to the center) and a small group of fellow organizers, the new center aims to help foreigners and newcomers to the city, from foreign students to expatriate business people, by providing a variety of information about Taichung life and acting as a hub for the community and link to other foreigners and Taiwanese. It also hopes to help Chinese/Taiwanese residents and businesses who want to contact foreigners and are interested in cultural exchanges. Although things are just getting started, a welcome package for newcomers and information library are hoped for soon. All are welcome to stop by–call the center for information and directions.
