CHAO KANG CHENG TUNGSHIH HAKKA RESTAURANT

From our archives, Compass Magazine, May. 2002:

Touted as the largest Hakka restaurant in Taiwan, this place is a new, third-floor addition to the massive, already-popular Chao Kang Cheng Gourmet Cuisine Plaza complex which includes Western and Chinese dining and banquet facilities. There are about 40 different traditional Hakka dishes, hailing from the Taichung county Hakka town of Tungshih and prepared with an emphasis on preserving original Hakka flavors. These include favorites like the Hakka-style fried rice noodles (NT$140), pig’s feet (NT$280), wild chicken, pumpkin soup, fried clams, tofu, fried eggplant, and bamboo shoots. Prices are reasonable and there are NT$3,500/table specials. Another big-restaurant plus is plenty of available parking. Chao Kang Cheng is located within a half-block of Feng Le Sculpture Park and Lakeside shopping/art street.
