CHUNG YO INTERNATIONAL FOOD COURT

From our archives, Compass Magazine, Aug. 2002:

By Douglas Habecker

After several weeks of renovation, Chung Yo Department Store’s B3-level food court has re-opened with an all-new, improved look and 32 new dining outlets and restaurants. The new lay-out is bright, attractive and much more spacious with long, open table and seating areas (about 750 seats) and a total of about 1,000 pings. Eateries serve up Chinese, Taiwanese, Korean, Thai, Japanese, Shanghainese and Cantonese cuisine, with everything from Italian gelato to Korean bulgogi barbecue. Yoshinoya’s first Taichung, serving its popular brand of Japanese fast food, is one of the new outlets. An added feature is a customer-ranked rating of the court’s top 10 best dishes (current #1 is Yoshinoya’s “Double Treasure Economy Meal”). Bigger, more formal dining is available in larger restaurants at either end of the court, where there are Shanghai and Hong Kong restaurants.
