FATTY’S (RE-OPENING)

From our archives, Compass Magazine, Sep. 2002:

Faithful patrons of Fatty’s Italian restaurant may have felt a flutter of fear upon seeing closed doors at this popular eatery’s in late August. There is no need, however, to be worried, as owner Hendrik Frijling temporarily shut down to carry out a renovation of the physical establishment–worn down by the 100,000-plus customers to date–and the menu. The face-lift includes new carpet, flooring and paint, plus a refurbished kitchen. Probably more important to customers are the menu additions, which include Pizza Calzone, that favorite baked fold-over filled with pizza filings or anything the customer wants, priced around NT$380 depending on fillings. Other additions include Spaghetti Vongole (NT$300), made with fresh mushrooms; an all-vegetarian pasta dish (NT$300), which allows customers to select their own pasta; and Pizza Paragiani (NT$390) with air-dried Parma ham and original Italian mozarella cheese. Naturally, other Fatty’s favorites, like Fettucine Seafood Thai-Style, are still available.
