Su Taichung Hostel

This meticulously-designed two-floor hostel (whose name means “nest” in Japanese) fills the need for a true international standard hostel in Taichung. Rooms with each anywhere from two, three, four and up to 10 beds (bunk beds NT$450/night weekdays, NT$650/Sat. & holidays; add NT$200 for larger normal beds) are found on male and female floors; mixed-gender rooming is fine if one books an entire room. Each bed comes with amenities like a flame-resistant curtain, personal light, plug and mirror, plus a big personal locker, laundry basket, hangers and towel. Guests enjoy a free breakfast, plus snacks and coffee/tea, in a large attractive common room (where cultural-exchange and fun events are also held) with fully-equipped kitchen, computers, TV, books and board games. Shared bathrooms are equally well-equipped and there are pay laundry facilities, long-term luggage lockers and vending machines. Staff are on call 24 hours but reserved or walk-in guests can also use an automated kiosk (in multiple languages) for self check-in and payment. This fully legal hostel also has full fire-safety equipment.
