Moncoeur

Moncoeur (“my heart” in French) has become a leading Taichung destination for dates and weddings, with its romantic atmosphere announced in the large letters L-O-V-E at the entrance. The NT$200 admission fee gets visitors NT$150 in decorated tokens to be spent in the tree-shaded areas, with destinations including metal cutouts of shadows creating a silhouette of couples where people can take photos, a fountain and small huts illuminated by heart-shaped windows. A perfumery allows guests to mix essences to create their favorite fragrances, while selections at a chocolate shop are made by sweetness percentage. Quaint decorations also make an ice cream parlor a cozy attraction, and an artist is on hand to preserve the moment with personal portraits. In addition, a stationery store stocks lovely diaries, postcards and other products under a ceiling of paper airplanes. If you get hungry, the restaurant’s Chef Lai Zhihao (賴志豪) prepares French-style delights with local ingredients, and recommends the Pan-Fried Duck Leg Confit with Herb Sauce (NT$460). –By Madeleyne Aguilar Andrade Translated by Anna Yang
