In Taichung’s booming hotpot market, there is a special niche for mini-hotpot shops like this family-oriented, pet-friendly place that includes several toy vending machines for kids to enjoy while waiting to be seated. The Stone Hot Pot’s soup base is made with stir-fried onions, scallions, sesame oil and vegetable broth. Customers can pay extra to change this with other broth flavors like Herbal; Bak Kut Tay; Japanese Yam and Milk; and Spicy Chili. Besides a generous vegetable plate, customer side dish options include the choice of one meat plate–either beef slices, sirloin, Iberico pork, Matsusaka pork, lamb, or black-hair Waygu beef. Mini hotpots are around NT$300-500 each; add an extra NT$10 for a bowl of aromatic braised pork over rice. Among a la carte options are meat, seafood, vegetables and handmade meatballs, and all-you-can-eat ice cream and drinks are available.
