In The Alley

Recently-opened In The Alley provides Taichung with a unique venue and weekend destination for a fun mix of entertainment that includes live bands, comedy shows and pub quizzes.
This place is on a narrow alley between Calligraphy Greenway and MeiCun Road, just around the corner from sister business Subau restaurant (9, Lane 83, MeiCun Rd., Sec. 1, West Dist.). The entrance is framed by covered open-air tables and a bar offering beer, wine and mixed drinks (NT$150-200). Inside there’s a spacious, yet cozy-feeling, wood-decorated interior with tables and seating for 50-70 around a stage where various events take place on Saturday evenings only.
Shows are only available via advanced purchase of tickets (not sold at the door) at Subau or by contacting manager Grant Turner via email (grantturner7@icloud.com) or the Thaichungalley Facebook page, where upcoming events are noted.
A monthly Pub Quiz with Dave Mayo (NT$250/person, includes pizza buffet) has teams competing over riddles and “name that tune/movie” contests for a grand prize. A standard sampling of other events this month includes live music from The Bartenders and Point 22, respectively, on May 5 and 19 (7:30-10:30 p.m.); and Skits and Giggles and Taichung Improv Comedy Extravaganza on May 26 (7-11 p.m.). Normally, bands and comedy shows are respectively NT$600 and NT$300 per person and include a drink.
Select World Cup (June 14-July 15) will also be shown, and the venue (including audio-visual equipment) can be rented for meetings, dinners and other events. –By Douglas Habecker Translated by Anna Yang
